So today my S.O. finally took me to my Christmas present, which he'd been keeping a secret all this time.

It was 2.5 hours wheel throwing at a pottery studio. I was SO HAPPY.

I haven't thrown on a wheel in… gosh… ten years. But it came back to me, like riding a bike. :da_love:

Unfortunately, now I'm exhausted and sore and achey, but so so happy, and my heart is so full. :blobhug2:

I miss ceramics so much! <3

The instructor invited me to come back and purchase a membership any time I felt up to it, and honestly, I really wish I could!

The only reason I could do it today is because they wedged and prepared the clay for us before we arrived. If I had to do that myself , I would have used up all my energy before even sitting down at the wheel.

For those who don't know, I majored in ceramics my first two years at art school. I wanted to finish my degree in it, but switched to Illo. the last two years.

Heather :chickadee:

Wheel throwing was my love. I wanted to major in it and finish my degree in it, but once I changed schools there wasn't enough space in the ceramics classes, so I switched to Illustration instead, and never made my way back.

But man… getting my hands dirty, putting myself into the clay… I miss it so much. I'm so happy I got to come back to it tonight, however briefly.

We'll see if this little vase thingy turns out when I can pick it up in a six weeks! X)

Here, have the only photo I have of me wheel throwing back in art school. This was at Langara College in Jan/2012.

A couple of those tools you see in front of me we actually made ourselves for the class. Got to spend some time in the wood shop, too!

Also a shot of some of my final work all laid out on a table getting ready for a critique. I focused on pitchers. ^^

Third photo is my shelf with more trays, plates, and glaze tests waiting for the teacher to grade them.

Remember when I went wheel throwing for the first time in 10 years back in March? Well we finally picked up my finished pot!

I'm in love with it. :D I'm so glad I hadn't lost all of my wheel throwing knowledge and was able to make something this cute. <3

I miss it so much. ;___;

@Rheall Looking forward to seeing it!!

@Rheall I love the joy that just radiates from the first picture. Lovely pitchers!

(Though I can't help it: "wheel throwing" feels like a very odd description for a non-native English speaker. I'd think it's a part of the Highland games. :) )

@Rheall Lovely! And I love that deep green color. 💚

@Rheall what a cute little pot
