Link at end but I am amused by the replies and discourse to this article for the bafflement regarding the existance of small Fedi, Fedi users that don’t want to interact with the whole of users. Small Fedi has people that honestly just want to be left the fuck alone. The more tech minded of the Fedi, big Fedi, as described here, is astonished such a thing could exist and my sides are splitting from them realizing not everybody wants to talk to you. https://wedistribute.org/2025/03/website-league-island-networks/ #Fediverse #ActivityPub #privacy
If anyone has enable this, how do I find you? I’d like to try following your blog on here. The social web beta is here https://activitypub.ghost.org/social-web-beta/ #Ghost #ActivityPub #Fediverse
But Jay is literally the Caesar of #bluesky rn. Like they did with the Trump-Musk AI video, the relay can shut down anything at any time. I know everybody says this will change, but that's not where they are today.
It is where the fedi has always been. But we don't have the media attention that comes with VC investment etc. I know I should stop bitching but shouldn't people who are pushing misleading PR be responded to with facts and better arguments?
I'm having fun testing out Ghost's Social Web beta. You can follow, like, reply, repost and interact with my blog directly with this handle:
Can’t wait for this to come to self-hosted Ghost blogs so I can give it a test drive. #activitypub
The social web beta is here https://activitypub.ghost.org/social-web-beta/?ref=beta-announcements-newsletter
Ghost has made ActivityPub available to all of its Pro subscribers.
Interesting how they name and describe it:
"Social Web - y/n
Federate your site with ActivityPub to join the world's largest open network"
https://activitypub.ghost.org/content/images/size/w1600/2025/03/activitypub-beta-1.png
Who are the finest #community builders in the #activitypub ecosystem, in your opinion?
#ATproto exists because VCs couldn't figure out how to cash in on #ActivityPub. that's it.
please stop telling me you can fix him.
@rudyfraser.com @atprotocol.dev
but it's not decentralized. if their relay has a problem, the whole network breaks. that's not how email (or #ActivityPub) works.
There's still time to put pressure on the UK government.
The UK Secretary of State has the power to exempt small, safely moderated websites from the Online Safety duties.
We need urgent change to protect net plurality, rather than further consolidating power in monopoly platforms. We need competition for a safer Internet.

The UK Online Safety Act comes into effect today.
Its onerous duties may cause many small sites, blogs and fedi instances to shut down or geoblock UK users when faced with potential fines and penalties.
This won't keep children safe. It'll benefit large platforms like Facebook and X that are laying waste to content moderation.
The Venn diagram of the protocol wars between #activitypub and #atproto and thinking of a day that #Twitter will stop being the benchmark of success for decentralized social media platforms.
I am creating a #ActivityPub minimalistic implementation of a badge system similar to Credly, built using #dotnet and leveraging the #Fediverse
I have issued a first badge, the idea is to decentralize the verification systems, and allow organizations to self-certify. It is incredible that organizations like Microsoft or Non-Profits pay thousands of dollars to companies like Pearson to just provide "verified" badges. Similar to mastodons installed in social-dot-something, thinkg of badges<dot> mozilla<dot>com , certifications<dot>myschooldistrict<dot>com. Or even a podcast emitting a badge for its guests, with the verification in the domain.
ActivityPub already offers a secure way to sign artifacts and interact between actors. The fediverse already have people with profiles, a social graph as @mike says, ready to use. Think of how LetsEncrypt disrupted that market of few actors selling certificates for websites.
I have a functional poc,
@fediverse is not a mastodon, pledora or blog, it is an actor in a badge system, but you can follow it in Mastodon. Its badges will show in #mastodon but they are not notes or articles. If you want to learn more, follow me, I will be sharing the progress here. Or follow the github project here: https://github.com/tryvocalcat/activitypub-badges
Who wants a badge of early adopter?
Saddling small sites with the same duties as huge platforms means many will shut down in a hammer blow to net plurality.
We'll be left with the Sophie’s choice of monopoly services; the incubators of online harms.
URGENT: The UK government must change the Online Safety Act to protect safe, non-commercial blogs, forums and fediverse.

Looking 4 a strange sonic experience? Check out…
RADIO IRRTUM! (on air from Berlin)
↓↓↓ Deutsch Version below unten ↓↓↓
Da next issue of #RadioIrrtum! is approaching: This Saturday, 2025/03/15, 8:00pm UTC+1/Berlin time. At Alex Berlin FM at 91MHz or DAB+ K7D around #Berlin and worldwide at https://www.alex-berlin.de/radio-livestream .
#Radio Irrtum! is a German language #radioShow exploring the sonic vastness of the #underground. Emitted transmissions may raise your attention for new unheard #music all over this planets genre spectrum. Don't worry about the German language aspect - 'cuz it's all about the #music!
This time with focus on sad pop music and strange experimental sonic somethings, specifically:
- #Pop music from war zones
- South American #electroPop
- #SmoothJazz
- Cut-up club-worthy remixes of #remix.es
- Trauma-technological #club punk
- Laibach-style #EBM
- Truly experimental #junkElectronica
- well, #experimentalMusic in general
- #EggPunk for cats
- Heavy #shoegaze
- Spoken word #doomShanties
- Dreamy #EbassRomance
There is #CreativeCommons licensed music, and also I thought of having at least one (amazing!) Fediverse artist in here. But turns out, the London music legend Scanner is no more part of the #Fediverse, as his instance mastodonmusic.social closed down (a reasonable decision by the admin, no hard feelings). But this is something, we, the #FediverseAdmins should keep in mind: People (especially technical non skilled ones) once lost will be disappointed and unmotivated to come back :( . This is something very deep level in #ActivityPub, I am very aware - I hope there is a way to somehow address this in the future. Scanner wrote me, he is on Bluesky now, so with a bridge, you might still be able to follow hin there (look for "robinrimbaud") – and please don't hassle him about it, he has his hands full and SN's aren't his top priority 4 now.
Anyway: If at least a bit interested in kewl new unusual #music, tune in!
I'll post playlist + manuscript later here (provided I’m home, else it will come up the day after). And if you have questions? I'll gladly answer! Just ask!
CU all on Saturday! :)

Finally, our team had a wonderful time at #SXSW on Sunday and Monday, where Flipboard and @surf hosted the first #FediverseHouse. Our CEO @mike and the whole team are 100% #TeamFediverse, and were thrilled to meet and talk to so many other open social web advocates. Here’s a feature by @Markoff for @newyorktimes, where Mike, @Gargron and @reckless1280 discuss the rise of decentralized social media, and how it can help publishers and media companies survive and thrive.
