Thinking I'll make a thread of some of the various 2D-animation model sheets I've collected over the years.

Most of these will be Disney, and the vast majority will have been sourced by Michael Sporn's Animation Splog (RIP: michaelspornanimation.com/splo ), which has such an amazing wealth of information and experience in it. <3

I won't be commenting much on these, just sharing for anyone interested in them. I found studying these to be extremely helpful and inspiring with my comics and illustration work. :)

First up: Some Rats of NIMH (1982, d. by Don Bluth).

Less a model sheet, more a tutorial sheet of how to draw a horse in the style of the movie, likely drawn by James Baxter. Pencil sketches accompanied by many notes detailing various construction details and things to keep in mind. This one focuses on head, ear, and eye construction.

Sleeping Beauty (1959), d. by Les Clark, Clyde Geronimi, and Eric Larson, and Wolfgang Reitherman. Marc Davis was the directing animator for Aurora.

Betty Boop, for Fleischer Studios, 1938.

A model turn-around sheet for Betty Boop. She stands provocatively in the turn around. At the bottom are a series of faces with different expressions. Tect reads: "Latest Model. Betty Boop. Feb 10th 1939." and "Betty's clothes should feature her figure. Not ear rings. No bracelets- except on special jobs. Eyes are one eye apart - on front view. Cheek lines curve up to the mouth. Short distance between upper lip and nose, for cuteness." Also: "Nose is just below bottom line of the eyes. Draw high light in eyes carefully (they help give direction in close ups). In rear view slightly reduce head size. Eye brows arch with head shape to give roundness. Curls grade from small on top to large on bottom."

Ferdinand The Bull (1938), One of Disney's Silly Symphonies that became its own short filml. Featuring caricatures of many Disney employees at the time, including Walt Disney, caricatured by animator Ward Kimball.

Fantasia is one of my absolute favourite Disney movies, and it's such a joy to study these drawings. :da_love:
