RE: systemli.social/@anneroth/1155

I give Gmail the slowest possible treatment🐌 🐢 —if I respond at all.

A few years ago, I reached my breaking point with Gmail’s escalating privacy issues and chose to stop replying to Gmail addresses entirely. At first, it felt a bit harsh, but I soon realized: if people genuinely need to reach you, they’ll find another way. And indeed, they have.

Now, I only respond to emails from providers that respect privacy. Gmail users either wait weeks for a reply—or switch to services like ProtonMail or Tutanota once they notice their messages go unanswered. It may sound strict, but this approach has surprisingly encouraged better digital habits around me.

Has anyone else tried refusing Gmail emails as a quiet protest against data mining?

SystemliAnne Roth (@anneroth@systemli.social)Considering very seriously (again) to refuse to exchange emails with people who are using #Gmail. Gmail can read your emails and attachments to train its AI, unless you opt out https://www.malwarebytes.com/blog/news/2025/11/gmail-is-reading-your-emails-and-attachments-to-train-its-ai-unless-you-turn-it-off

This week in #FDroid (TWIF) has a WiP title:

* you can't jam #Jami
* easier Latin script for #MakeACopy
* 3rd #ProtonPrivacy app, still not #ProtonMail (may we wait 10 more years for it to be #FLOSS)
* #Google has no issue with apps spying on you, as long as they pay

@protonprivacy We're also #hiring #juniors: grnh.se/tfdgi4f2teu, this time in #Skopje, #Barcelona, and #Prague.

This is for the #ProtonMail Inbox team (an umbrella for Mail and #ProtonCalendar where I sit). The Desktop team covers things like #MailBridge, a tool that allows you to setup a local #SMTP and #IMAP server which will transparently decrypt your emails *locally* and let you connect a regular #email client like #Thunderbird or #Outlook. This is #OpenSource: github.com/ProtonMail/proton-b!

job-boards.eu.greenhouse.ioDesktop Engineer (Inbox)Skopje; Barcelona; Prague;

Hi #Rust developers! My Calendar team at @protonprivacy is #hiring! We are looking to fill several positions at our offices in #Barcelona, #Geneva, and #london

Job Description: grnh.se/op1xycx2teu

#Proton is office-first, with people coming in 3 days a week. Lunch is provided for you!

Please boost if you know a great Rust developer! If **I know you, please reach out directly** and I can refer you internally!

job-boards.eu.greenhouse.ioRust Engineer Barcelona; Geneva; London;

Anyone to advise an #emailprovider to replace #proton #protonmail ?
Any alternative to the full Proton suite would actually be welcome.
Ideally based in #EU #europe #EuropeanUnion #RGPD #GDPR
#Privacy
UPDATE: here it is, I'm looking for an email provider (no problem to pay), with

  • no AI shit (even if it's "tools", like scribe for Proton users),
  • unlimited aliases,
  • possibility to send encrypted emails if needed.
  • why not includes a calendar.
    I also need to find a Proton Pass and Proton Drive alternative.
    I find Proton has become a very centralised thing (mail, passwords, calendars, drive, docs, vpn, crypto wallet [wtf bros?] and even an LLM.) The advantage is you pay once and you have access to everything. But I don't like centralised stuff.

Ever tried to delete a #ProtonMail email address?

I have.

It can't be done.

Not without permanently deleting every email you've ever received at that address.

Which, for the record, cannot be done. Even deleting every message from every folder, then emptying Spam and Trash, the operation is still denied.

@protonprivacy suspended my account as soon as I purchased the unlimited plan and sent an email asking how to change the recovery email as I no longer have access to it. I ended up losing both money and account along with all the data. This is outrageous!

Ticket ID: 3936861

Boosts would be appreciated 🚀

Edit: I'm yet to hear back from Proton. I reached out to them in every way possible.

Edit: Google rejected my refund request and I'm yet to receive any response from Proton. It's been close to 48 hours.

Update: Proton finally responded and resolved the issue.
