The world of art-focused instances on Mastodon is surprisingly small, which is rather sad considering how exciting a whole community of different artistic instances would be.

Whether they're for specific mediums/crafts/genres, or just with different aesthetics or feel to the community… gosh, I would love that.

.ART shouldn't be the *only* art instance people know of and gravitate to. It's partly why I started ComicsCamp.Club. But I don't have the spoons to run more than I already do. :(

I love that there *are* some art-focused instances out there! Like socel.net for animators or mograph.social.

I kind of dream of a community of artistic instances that share a Code of Conduct or common ideals that support each other, so people can feel safe moving from one to the other to find which one works best for them.

That being said, I have a list of creative/artistic instances here: mastodon.art/@Curator/10312832 That really badly needs updating. :(

What are some creative/artistic instances you know about that are run by great people? I'm going to need some help building a more up-to-date list.

@Rheall toomanycooks.social is a cooking-focused instance run by the wonderful @skelly

@g @Rheall it's currently closed for sign-ups tho, sorry

@skelly No worries! <3 And thank you so much for the reminder of this awesome instance, @g ! :da_w00t:

@Rheall @ojack scanlines.xyz publishes very creative generated or edited videos. Digital and analog sources. It is a peertube instance and a discussion forum. Perhaps you could consider it for your creative/artistic instances list.

@Rheall I totally agree. ☹️ I feel like one of the larger issues is that Mastodon doesn’t have a “neighborhood” grouping (idea from: runyourown.social/#beyond-loca )

@Rheall I like art and could sort of imagine myself running an art instance as a sub community. Like this:

art.mastodon.green - For artists and galleries located in Europe.

It won't happen any time soon, because it would need some kind of sponsorship to cover server costs and also volunteer moderators.

@JohanEmpa I hear you! If I had infinite resources of money, time, and spoons, I'd definitely like to branch off .ART into more sub-instances. It's not going to happen, though. Admining two instances is more than enough for me right now!

Also, having good moderators is worth its weight in gold. I am SO thankful for my mods on .ART. I don't know where I'd be without them. <3

@Rheall 🤗

photog.social is also out there for photographers

hopefully there are others that are flying under the radar and can surface on joinmastodon in due time
